Our facility is a full-service animal hospital that welcomes both pets with significant illness or injury, along with routine veterinary care related to preventative medicine, necessary surgeries, and excellent dental care for your pet. To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Need to Have…
This role can be demanding, but our Associate Veterinarian must be highly qualified, an excellent communicator, the ability to multitask with strong problem-solving skills, and genuinely passionate about the pets in their care. We are looking for an associate that is confident but friendly and pleasant to clients and team members. Here is a brief overview of the expectations required for the Associate Veterinarian role:
Medical Duties
- Broad knowledge and skills needed to treat sick and injured animals by way of prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, or performing surgery.
- A multitasker who can easily switch hats and apply their skills where needed with ease.
- Thorough preventative medical care for all patients.
- Possess strong surgical expertise.
- Perform laboratory procedures and diagnostic tests, including parasitology, hematology, and urinalysis.
- Possess the ability to operate diagnostic equipment, i.e,, radiographic with comprehensive knowledge to interpret the resulting images. Practice also equipped with ultrasound equipment, ability to operate and interpret images a plus!
- Administer anesthetics, perform surgery, and monitor patients during surgery and recovery with the assistance of the technical team.
- Dentistry is a strong part of our practice so experience with dental extractions and procedures is preferred.
Administrative Duties
- Document all actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and patient records.
Client Service Duties
- Answer client questions and provide education on various aspects of animal care and treatment.
- Educate the public about diseases that can be spread from animals to humans.
- Call back/follow-up with clients; recommend medical progress visits when appropriate.
A list of requirements essential to this role include:
- Possess a valid DVM license that is in good standing for the NY area.
- Flexibility to accommodate changes to work shift, such as staying late or working through breaks to assist pets on occasion.
